The Practice has recently broadened its skills base. Having concentrated for some years on longer-term, more analytically based psychotherapy approaches, and having been pioneers particularly in group approaches, we have extended our range of practitioners to include others who bring specific skills and experience in coaching and mentoring. This means that we probably offer one of the most comprehensive services in private practice in the UK. What unites us is our common commitment to the importance of accurate assessment and problem formulation and to the importance of the therapist- or coach-client relationship as the most valuable tool in the overall intervention.
Consultants working at the Practice come from a variety of backgrounds, both clinical and organizational, medical and non-medical, and offer a breadth of expertise and skills that few practices can rival.
This means that we are open to referral of a wide range of problems, including anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive problems, work-related stress, relationship problems, sexual problems, low self-esteem, difficulties with anger and assertiveness, organizational problems and career stress, and that we are usually able to provide assistance from within our resources.

We operate a policy of non-discrimination and welcome inquiries from people of all ages, ethnicity and sexual orientation. This is within the spirit of the group analytic tradition which values diversity as a key source of strength.
Effective treatment or management of a problem usually begins with careful and informed assessment, taking account of life history and present circumstances and often focusing on interpersonal relationships.

Most of our practitioners are qualified and experienced in one or more of the major approaches to individual psychotherapy. This is within an integrated approach that takes account of contemporary research.

We specialize in psychotherapy groups that provide an important source of belonging and interpersonal feedback, often on a long-term basis. Groups are once or twice weekly and consist of up to eight members. We also run groups of shorter duration, sometimes focused on specific problems

We have a long tradition of working with couples, whether married, non-married, straight or gay. The therapy is usually provided by two practitioners, themselves working as a couple.

Children and adolescents with a variety of problems are seen, based on an assessment of the child within the family context. Parents themselves may need guidance, support or therapy themselves and this is also offered

Several practitioners, themselves senior members of the profession, provide one-to-one or group supervision for colleagues and students working in a variety of settings, including the NHS and private practice.

We offer medico-legal assessments, as well as court reporting for personal injury, family and matrimonial disputes, employment law and other civil or criminal procedures.

We use psychological techniques to maximize personal effectiveness in several areas of living: handling relationships; assertiveness; choosing and building a career plan; improving sports performance; social networking.

Enabling individuals in work and other settings to discover strengths: compensate for weaknesses; create new approaches to problem-solving; thinking ‘outside the box’; envisioning options and alternatives.

These tend to be more active and directive approaches to psychological problems, often useful for relatively circumscribed problems or symptomatic conditions such as anxiety and depression. This may be done individually or in a group.

We provide targeted programmes for those facing redundancy as well as those surviving in the workplace.

Assessment and treatment for those problems and disorders requiring a medical approach – eg the prescribing of appropriate drugs.
